 Problem opening ADODB.Connection using Win32::OLE

I am trying to use ADO to connect to a SQL Server.  The code works
below on servers with MDAC 2.5 installed, but fails on servers with
MDAC 2.1 installed:

my $conn_str    = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=$server;Initial
Catalog=AccountRequestRpt;User ID=$user;Password=$passw;";

$Conn = Win32::OLE->new('ADODB.Connection') || return($BAD, "Cannot
create new OLE ADO object: ".Win32::OLE->LastError());

The Error opening the connection is:

0 Cannot open OLE ADO object: OLE exception from "ADODB.Connection":

ADO could not find the specified provider.
