 This format caused core dump

I am running perl 4.19 on an SGI 4D/240s with Irix 4.04.
The following format causes a core dump (segmentation fault).

$dd,$months[$mm],$yy,"$hh:",int($min/15)*15,$intf,$totalin[$intf], $totalout[$intf], $maxout[$intf], $maxout[$intf]
.

Replacing the last  $maxout[$intf] by a dummy variable $test still dumps.

Anybody got any idea what is going on here?

Thanks, Russell.
