 Ad rotations ideas

I am unaware if this question made it to the mainstream before so I am
basically posting it again. I am trying to learn perl but thought I
might ask this anyway.

I have seen a random image display script working and it seems pretty
simple. I have seen a random url linker working and it seems pretty
simple. I want to have random adds display but linked to certain pages
and then if the user clicks on the add it takes them to the URL.

The biggest requirement is no SSI.

I want to be able to just add a couple of lines of text to an existing
html page.

There are a couple of examples in Trade Banner adds, Link Exchange
adds, Commonwealth Riddler adds. All of these can supply a couple of
lines of text you add to a page that already exists and away we go.

I need to be able to pass the page it is being called from as a
command line thingo so that adds can be displayed relevant to that
page. IE: img src="rotate.pl?page=cars"

The only way I can think of doing it (but haven't got the knowledge to
write it) is know what ad was displayed to a user by getting a session
id (if thats possible) and when the user clicks on the image as in

<a href=" http://www.*-*-*.com/ ; > <img
src=" http://www.*-*-*.com/ ;> </a>

the link-ad.pl reads a session type file written by rotate-ad.pl and
then sends the user to the appropiate url.

Opionaly I would like to log the displays and the clicks.

Is this possible....?
