Recruiters are pretty much scum.  You probably wasted your time with your
comment, he'll never read the ng.

That's why I both post *and* email this particular bit of boilerplate...
and believe it or not there have been follow-ups with rates, too.

Does IBM have a version of CICS that runs on UNIX?

Recruiters are like lawyers, used-car salesmen and Congressmen: the vast
majority are honest, hardworking ethical professionals, with but a
smattering of scum. Kind of like IT consultants.

CICS is scary as it is, imagine it on UNIX!  But it wouldn't
supprise me, since IBM seems to be trying to get things like
DB2 on every platform around.

Ron:

I believe that Sun Microsystems purchased the UniKix product which is
a CICS emulator running under Solaris.  I'm not sure if they support
other versions of the UNIX OS or not.

If I'm correct, Sun have been reoving support for UniKix from the other Unix
platforms.

IBM do have CICS on AIX as far as I am aware. IBM's TX series also supports
the CICS API and is available on several Unix platforms.

Paul:

1.  I have heard the same stories regarding Sun limiting support only
to Solaris.  I can't confirm this, however.

2.  Apologies!  I forgot about CICS for AIX from IBM.  I also wasn't
aware of IBM's support for non-AIX based UNIX platforms.  That's good
to know.

Thanks!  Happy holidays!

Its my understanding that CICS itself does NOT run on anything BUT MVS /
VSE, OS/VS (i.e. IBM mainframe), AIX has a Workstation like product that
allows you to ACCESS the CICS on the mainframe.

Rebuttals ???

Yes, please don't top post.

I remember using CICS with OS/2, the real deal, not just a client side
product.  But I've not heard of an AIX version.

CICS on NT is a full function CICS
so is CICS for OS/2
ditto for Transaction Server on AIX and NT

They also allow access to CICS on other platforms, like on Mainframe
