 WWW: Help learning COBOL

Hello.

Any web sites or other online informational pieces or tutorials on the
basics/semantics of COBOL? Not for heavy duty programming, but just to get
a flavor for the language, coming from a C++ background :)

Thanks,

Hello,

I don't know about on line sources of data about COBOL.

We sell "Teach Yourself COBOL in 21 Days" which is an excellent self study
tutorial on COBOL.  For more advanced COBOL, and the MicroFocus Personal
COBOL Compiler to go with it.  We also have the "COBOL Cook Book" of tips
and tricks and routines for COBOL Programmers, and for the Year 2000
Problem, we have " COBOL, Dates and the Year 2000" which goes into COBOL
date orblems and solutions in extensive detail.

You can e-mail me for more information or call 818-951-5240
Best wishes,

Helen Budlong

[Note followup has been set to: comp.lang.cobol only]

This reference work in HTML has been collected from comp.lang.cobol
- no guarantees but I think most of the links are reliable!

Hope it helps.

Richard:

**Please** do not attribute the shareware COBOL compiler to Flexus.
It is not our compiler, nor do we support it.  The only reason that we
agreed to place it on our ftp site was as follows:

A couple years ago, many students were posting the shareware compiler
as a uuencoded binary to this newsgroup.  It was quite objectionable
to those who pay for their internet access on a connect-time basis.

As a service to the readers of this newsgroup, we agreed to place it
on our ftp sites for those students who wanted a shareware COBOL
compiler.  Since that time, we have had thousands of downloads from
our ftp site for the compiler.  We believe that this has helped to
eliminate the uuencoded bianries from this site.

I can't remember anyone posting the binaries in at least a year and a
half.

We certainly don't mind hosting the shareware compiler on our ftp
site, but please don't attribute the thing to us.

Thanks!
