No.  As to why, check the FAQ, or DejaNews - this question comes
up pretty regularly every week or so.  If you want to clear the
screen you'll have to use some system-specific trick.

What ugly (and grumpy) language. How about translating RTFFAQ as "Read
the Friendly FAQ". Makes more sense, sounds more friendly and does not
implicitely insult either the poster or the FAQ.

No, don't. Try that if you are using DOS &c. "clear" will work on
unices and hurd - it really depends on what platform you are using, so
suggesting OS-specific things without a caveat as to what OS it will
work on is not terribly helpful. The original poster should ask the
relevant NG though....
