 C training - likes<->dislikes<->suggestions

I have the task of designing a C course.  The audience is computer people who
have just learned UNIX and need to know C.  I want this course to be USEFUL.
I intend to have two seperate courses beginner and advanced.  What suggestions
do you have on how to make the course useful, worthwhile, valuable.  Think
back to the courses you have taken/given.  What works, what doesn't.  Any
suggestions on prefered textbook(s).

Any suggestions,flames will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.  I will
summarize if there is sufficient interest.
