 IDE or Enhanced-IDE?

Hello,

how to test whether I have an IDE or Enhanced-IDE controller?
(BIOS?, Port 1f0h-1f7h?)

Thanks

This could be a long shot... Didn't LBA capability for disk drives come
with EIDE?

If so, just try to read a sector from the HD using LBA.

out 1F2h, 1
out 1F3h, 1
out 1F4h, LBA_BITS0_7
out 1F5h, LBA_BITS8_15
out 1F6h, 0E0h OR (DRIVE_0_OR_1 SHL 4) OR (LBA_BITS_16_23)
out 1F7h, 20h

wait until port 1F7 reads say 58h or stop after 5 seconds or so...

If it says 58h, read 256 words from port 1F0h using rep insw
