I just want the raw data...

Hi All,

I am writing a 3d engine, and am
having difficulty finding out how a
vrml text is laid out. I need to extract
all the relavent data (lights, polygons,
points, etc.) from the vrml...

Is there already a program that can
do this? Or is there a faq somewhere
that explains the layout of a vrml
file?

Though vrml 1.0 is okay...
I would really like to get data on
the most recent release. I
apologize if this question is out
of sync with the scope of this
 newsgroup.

Thanks and Grace,
Andrew

Sure.  There's the spec, but that may be a lot more information
than you want.  The very best kind of program I've found for
displaying a scene graph (which is what they call the overall
layout) is a VRML modeler, but nearly as good -- perhaps even
better -- is Holger Grahn's free GLView which doubles as a very
good VRML browser.  You'll find the tree viewer under "Tools" on
the toolbar.

You can get GLView at http://www.snafu.de/~hg/

I used this for  importing vrml data

you can join their discussion group to ask questions when you have problems.
