3D character modelling system (VRML, on-line)

Hi all,

Interested persons can try out a vrml modelling system
prototype called HanimPlus. It is a VRML-EAI-Java based
modeller aimed at
creating 3D characters (hierarchy + skin). It is supposed to
run in Netscape 4.x and IExplorer (with MS JVM) using
CosmoPlayer, Blaxxun Contact or Parallelgraphics Cortona
browsers (in this order of preference). However, there are
some prerequsites for this, setting up a JVM that works with
EAI (in case of IE), giving file handling rights to the
applet, etc. These prerequisites are described on the access
site of the system:

The main properties of the HanimPlus system are:

- controls integrated into the environment
- capabilities to handle hierarchies based on H-anim Joint
and Segment components (using internal format, with export
option to proper VRML)
- H-anim compliant hierarchies can also be handled (at the
user's discretion, meaning that the system does not enforce
H-anim compatibility)
- local hierarchy adjustments
- skin is based on regular grid geometries to enable natural
graphics primitives like rings and columns of coordinates
- permanent bounding of hierarchy and skin
- etc.

The simple interface, natural primitives are supposed to
serve the scope of accessibility for a widespread audience,
even if not familiar with graphics modelling.

I realise that this system is far from release quality and
it may be prone to errors and even browser crash in some
configurations, however, if you do try out the system,
please take a few moments and judge the following aspects of
the system (good/bad, easy/hard, yes/not, etc. comments and
inbetween grades will also suffice):

1) integrated interface

2) learn graphics primitives

3) manipulate graphics primitives

4) learn hierarchy components, properties

5) manipulate hierarchy components

6) direct manipulation

7) manipulation ease

8) manipulation speed

9) interface simplicity

10) overall ease of use, naturalness

Additionally, I am interested in all comments that you may
have. A texture applicator and an animation editor are also
in the works.
