I would like to learn VHDL, can anybody suggest me a book or
where and how I can get started?

IMO, "A VHDL Primer" by Bhasker is a fairly complete intro that is
easy to read and well organized.

Again, IMHO, the best way to get started is to get your hands on a
simulator and try creating a couple of simple designs.
