Gents -

I have just learned that SNUG97(February 19-21 (not-confirmed)) and
IVC97(March 31-April 2 (confirmed by Call For Papers)) are not scheduled
back-to-back as they have been in years past. And IVC starts the day after
Easter, a holiday for some companies.

As an engineer who attends both conferences, I would appreciate it if this
could be corrected. I also hope that the Spring VIUF-97 will be co-located
with IVC-97 just as it was last year.

I know a number of engineers on the East Coast that will not be able to
attend both SNUG and IVC if they are not scheduled back-to-back. My guess is
that companies will send some to SNUG and others to IVC whereas in the past
they could justify the slight incremental cost of attending both conferences
due to air fare discounts for a weekend stay.

Please reconsider the scheduled conference dates. I will be publicly
lobbying for a change of these dates.

Best Regards - Cliff Cummings

Lee Wood was kind enough to send a response (thanks, Lee). Posted below.

Lee's response:

     Cliff,

Thanks for your email regarding the SNUG and IVC dates.  While I can't
brief you on the SNUG date selection, I wanted to explain the IVC date
selection process.  The dates were selected about 6 months ago in a
long and painful process working with the Santa Clara Convention
Center and the Santa Clara Conv. and Visitors Bureau.  I worked with
them on every possible week in Feb., March and April and this was the
only one we were able to settle on.  Due to the size and specific
requirements of IVC there is very little space available.

With this in mind please understand that there is no way we can change
the dates of the IVC meeting.  Fortunately, as in the past the
sessions and exhibition will most likely take place on the Tuesday and
Wednesday (4/1-2) so hopefully the conflict with Easter Monday will be
avoided for all but those participating in the tutorials and
     exhibition set-up.

The dates could alter at most one day due to the likely co-location
with VIUF.  The deal has yet to be finalized so I don't have any
definite information on whether or not it will take place or how it
     might effect the dates.

Cliff, before you make a public campaign out of the dates I would urge
you to get the full story from Synopsys.  I agree it always works
better when the two events are close together but so much goes into
site and date selection that there are probably very good reasons why
     SNUG is in Feb.

(too late! sorry, Lee!)

This should (hopefully) help clarify some of your questions about the
dates this year.  We certainly don't want to plan the event so it
makes life difficult for attendees, but please understand that there
is a tremendous amount of effort that goes into selecting dates and
that we have to take what is available.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

     Sincerely,

     Lee
