 M-x compile for verilog

I'd like to compile and debug verilog in emacs.
Compilation works fine using a makefile with the -c switch in verilog.

However, the (next-error) function doesnt.
The compilation does write eror information to *compilation* buffer,
but I guess it is not in the correct form for (next-error) to parse.

How does emacs track errors in sources such as C?
And has anyone managed to get verilog compilation to work in this way?

thanks,
t

I've managed to get the effect I want by hacking about with compile.el.

In case anyone's interested, the problem was simply that the verilog
error messages did not precede the line numbers with the word "line".

This was got round by changing the regexp in compile.el (line 46 or
thereabouts) from:

  "\\([^ :\n]+\\(: *\\|, line \\|(\\)[0-9]+\\)\\|\\([0-9]+ *of *[^ \n]+\\)"
to:

  "\\([^ :\n]+\\(: *\\|, \\|, line \\|(\\)[0-9]+\\)\\|\\([0-9]+ *of *[^ \n]+\\)"

If anyone's got a better solution, I'd be grateful for it.
