VS7 compile error (fresh install)

 VS7 compile error (fresh install)

I just finished reinstalling VS7 into a new partition. I tried to compile a
simple "hello world" to verify the setup, and received this error message:

The predefined type 'System.Byte' is not defined or imported

Unfortunately the help says to reinstall the Framework, which I did, and it
didn't fix the problem. This is a totally new install of .NET and VS7 Beta2,
as well as a totally new OS install. I've done reinstalls at least three
other times and never had this problem. The only big change I can think of
is this install is on a second partition, whereas all previous installs have
been on the primary (and only) partition on the box.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. I submitted a bug report but
I'm not holding my breath. :)

What gives?

Additional information -- this is a VS7 problem. I can compile the same code
with CSC from the command line without errors.
