Compile error with cygwin on Windows 2000

I just grabbed the latest source via cvs and get the following error:

compiling Win32API
extmk.rb:666:in `system': failed to allocate memory(realloc) (fatal)
        from extmk.rb:666:in `extmake'
        from extmk.rb:726
        from extmk.rb:711:in `each'
        from extmk.rb:711

Any idea how fix this?  I am running cygwin on Windows 2000.
