Will there be an OO-Rexx compiler?

Will there be an OO-Rexx compiler?

I am a big fan of Rexx, and I am looking forward to learning Object
Rexx some day.  I know that there is a decent VM/CMS Rexx compiler, and
I remember reading that when Rexx was designed the eventual possibility
of a compiler was kept in mind.  Is OO-Rexx also being designed to keep
open the possibility of compilation?

If you mean Object REXX from IBM, no, I don't think it was really <designed>
to keep open the possibility of compilation. However, the distinction
between interpreter and compiler may become less and less as has been
amply discussed on this forum. The language design of REXX itself
was biased towards interpretation. Object REXX includes new directives
(non-executable statements) which give the language more compiler-like
As far as designing Object REXX with a compiler in mind, I don't think
so, although you may want to get Rick McGuire's definitive answer, since
he monitors this forum and is one of the authors of Object REXX.
