Ghostscript 3.33: feature or bug?

 Ghostscript 3.33: feature or bug?

This problem was partially caused by my own  stupidity, so I'm not
sure whether  to call it  a feature or  a bug. However  it is definitely a
feature I could do without :-)

I had a dictionary  in  which I  had defined  a key/value pair  in
which the  key  was "index" (I  now  know that   "index"  is a  predefined
operator/function but I  had not noticed  it until  this morning). Calling
"findfont" with this  dictionary on the stack  caused  it to abort with  a
typecheck  error in /length if and  only if the font  had not already been
loaded.  This does not occur  under NextStep, gs3.01 or  earlier, or an HP
Laserjet IV.  Renaming "index" to something  else (after a couple of hours
of digging around) fixed the problem.

So, is this a feature or a bug?
