 GNU libplot and Adobe Illustrator

I'm pleased to announce that the new release of the GNU plotting utilities
(version 2.1.6, see http://www.*-*-*.com/ )
can produce output in Adobe Illustrator's native format.

Since the plotting utilities include GNU libplot, a C/C++ function library
for drawing vector graphics, this means that you can now write C and C++
programs to create drawings that Illustrator and compatible graphics
applications can edit.

Illustrator format (".ai format") is a restricted form of postscript, which
can't be sent directly to a Postscript printer or previewer.  Besides
producing files in Illustrator format, GNU libplot can produce Postscript
files that can be edited with the free `idraw' drawing editor, PCL 5 files,
and files that can be edited and converted with the free `xfig' drawing
editor.

As the maintainer of the plotting utilities, I hope the new support for
Illustrator format will be useful.  Within a release or two, PDF format
should be supported as well.
