 Ghostscript problem

**** Post for FREE via your newsreader at post.usenet.com ****

There seems to be a severe ghostscript bug. It fails reading numerous
.ps files generated
from .pdf. The error it shows is
Error: /undefined in -infinity
It makes no difference whether the .pdf file has been converted to .ps
by acrobat reader or
ghostscript itself - when you try to read the generated .ps file the
error occurs.
I tried it with several ghostscript versions up to Aladdin 7.0 for
Linux, UNIX, and Win NT
- no difference.
I've posted an example for you at

http://www.*-*-*.com/
The first page of this example should work, but the second page fails.
The original .pdf file can be found at
  http://www.*-*-*.com/
I've used the pages 3 and 4 to generate the example .ps file using
acrobat reader.

Surprisingly I wasn't able to find anything concerning this matter in
the web, but let's see if someone of you knows what's going on here.

You have misdiagnosed the problem. What you have discovered is not a
GhostScript bug: the postscript file is actually incorrect, containing
lines like

566.293 54.564 m
444.058 54.564 l
443.93 -infinity l
566.164 -infinity l
f

There is clearly a bug in something, but you have demonstrated it
isn't in GhostScript.

Page 4 contains the original PDF code:

566.293 54.564 m
444.058 54.564 l
443.93 -2931165 l
566.164 -2931165 l
f

You can see two very large negative numbers, which are being converted
to -infinity. It would probably be more useful if Acrobat Reader
didn't do this, but responsibility has to be shared with whatever made
the original PDF file, Distiller 3.01 in fact. Perhaps this was a bug
fixed in later releases.
