 PLI & Java

Given IBM's unmistakable enthusiasm for and progress with Java et al,
what place can PLI possibly have (aside from its legacy obligations)?
The same question goes for COBOL and Fortan?

Though I don't have the compiler, I notice that VA PLI v2.1 PG has a
section on a Java DCLGEN interface.  Maybe this is a clue: "If you can't
beat 'em, join 'em".
