Backreference position/length?

 Backreference position/length?

I read in "Mastering Regular Expressions" last night that Perl (at
that release) did not have a way of finding the position or length
of $digit backreferences.

I've looked in the O'Reilly Perl/Tk book on search() and it doesn't
appear to support this, either.

Has this changed in 5.005 or is it planned to be added?
