 Problem with Tk800.022

Hello Sir,

I am a Graduate Research Assistant at Wayne State University, Detroit,
Michigan. I ftp file Tk800.022.tar.gz and tried to install it. After
unzipping and untaring the file, when I write "perl Makefile.PL" it works
fine and reports no error, but one worning..."NO library found for -lpt".
Than when I write "make" as instructed in INSTALL file, it says make not
found and hence, I can not install the software.

Please let me know, what I should be doing in this case.

Thanks,

---------

If you are running Windows, you use a different procedure.
If you are running UNIX, you need to make sure the make program is in your
path. (Try typing : whence make)

If you need more help, tell us your operating system, version of perl, etc.

You ought to use the make utility that was used to build perl in order
to build perl extensions on your system.  If make is not found there could
be several explanations.  First you will want to ascertain which make
utility was used to build perl.  Since you mentioned that the
`perl Makefile.PL` step ran alright then you ought to be able to run:

    perl -V:make

note carefully the capital V there.  On most unix systems that with
return a line such as:

  % perl -V:make
  make='make';
  %

On Windows systems that might either return make='make'; or possibly:

  C:\>perl -V:make
  make='nmake';
  C:\>

or possibly this answer:

  C:\>perl -V:make
  make='dmake';
  C:\>

at any rate if perl's make is some string other than a literal 'make'
then you ought to use that command in the subsequent build steps.

For example if on NT using nmake the steps to build the Tk extension
would be:

  C:\>perl Makefile.PL
  C:\>nmake
  C:\>nmake test
  C:\>nmake install

If, on any platform you either use 'make', or 'nmake', or what have you
and an error message of the type:

  % make
  make: Command not found.
  Exit 1
  %

or perhaps:

  C:\>nmake
  The name specified is not recognized as an
  internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
  C:\>

Then you will need to adjust your $PATH (on Unix) or %PATH% (on NT)
so that the directory containing the make (or the nmake.exe or
dmake.exe) program is listed in the PATH environment variable.

Setting environment variables is shell and system specific and you
might want to consult your system documentation on how to go about it.

Note that on Unix the find utility can be used to find a make or gmake
program for you.

Good luck.
