 PRINTING UNDER NT : Using PERL/TK

Using Perl/Tk under NT

I am working on the application that deals with both NT and UNIX systems.

I have following issues on NT:

1. How to Print under NT
2. How to log traces on NT
3. How to separate code for NT and UNIX ( like in c-language: #ifndef
IN32  )

I would appreciate your response.

Thanx.

You can install ghostscript/ghostview for Windows and print the canvas
postscript output.

if ($^O eq 'MSWin32') { ... }

        or

if ($Tk::platform eq 'unix') { ... }

Take a look at using LPR to handle the printing from an NT box.

I'm at home, so I can't give you more specifics on setting it up. However,
if you need any assistance on getting started, drop me a private email at

I use config.pm for this. This module defines a hash 'Config', one of whose
keys is OS(operating system)
You can use a loop like this :
if ($Config{'osname'} eq 'MsWin32'}
then
    .....
else
   ..

Some of that doesn't look much like Perl!

The module is Config.pm (use Config;), but $^O is a lot easier to
remember and to type in.
