Using SQL to insert record wth memo

I am trying to insert a record containing memo field.
Suppose the table has the following field

 docmangmain.db
 Name              Type
 DocumentNumber    Alpha
 Notes             Memo

I use the following SQL to insert a record:
insert into documangmain (DocumentNumber, Notes) VALUES
("D00001","This is a test string for memo file")

When I executed the statement using Database Explorer,
I get the "type mismatch error"

Any idea what's wrong with the SQL statement?  Thanks
