 What are all these files?

I have a singel directory with my database and all its tables in it.
But there are all these files.

*.DB  - tables...got that
*.MB - memos...got that
*.PX - ???
*.x02 - ???
*.x03 - ???
*.XG0 - ???
*.XG1 - ???
*.XG2 - ???
*.Y02 - ??
*.Y03 - ???
*.YG? - ????
*.VAL - ????

What do all these file do, and do I need to distribute them all?
Please help me understand this.

I'm not sure, but think of the following:

I don't know !

I believe the *.X* and *.Y*-files are the files for the primary,
the secondary and the indexes for the referential integrity

That is the file with the validate-fields you can enter
inside the datadesktop !

Absolutely (I'm not sure with the PX, but I think so..)

Pretty sure that's a Paradox index, so if you're using Paradox tables,
you need it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Paradox.  A database is stored in discrete
files, and with time you will fall in love with that design.  ;-)

The major players are:

        DB      - the primary table-file
MB      - if you have memos, they are stored here
        X??, Y?? - indexes
        VAL     - validity checks
        LCK     - network lock-files
        NET     - more network lock-files

Yes, you need them all.

In addition to Steff's ans. the px is the primary index

The .PX file contains the primary index. These are the key fields marked
with an asteriks (*).
For each secondary index Paradox has a pair of .X and .Y files.
X02 and .Y02 for the secondary index on the second field.
X03 and .Y03 for the secondary index on the third field.
....
The .VAL file contains the validity checks for all fields as:
- highest and lowest values
- default values
- input format masks
......
If you want to distribute your application you need this files.
If you delete them your application will work but than there is no check
of values and it will be much slooooower.

In Delphi Database helpfile, I found the meaning of most extensions .

I hope it will help you.

Pascale.

Sorry, it's in french but I don't really think  it's a particularity of the

table.

QBE     Requte enregistre.
SQL     Instruction?SQL enregistre.

The .VAL files are validity check files. If you don't distribute these, your program might not
work correctly.

*.px, *.x??, *.y?? files are your primary and secondary indexes that go
along with your *.db files.  *.val, I dont know, possibly validation rules
for the db?
