Thanks for the perfect setup Dan. I will be starting up a
Smalltalk group
again "real soon now" in the SF South Bay. I don't feel compelled to say
when this will happen except it will be after the beginning of September. No
plans are definite but I have a number of thoughts about how it will be. It
will meet WEEKLY, the agenda will be rather broad and loose, and that the
approach will NOT be conventional, there will be a considerable amount of
experimentation. The focus will start with VW, but may end up anywhere in
the Smalltalk world in an inclusive sort of way.
I plan to have a speaker once a month and then the rest of the sessions will
be less formal, with low preparation overhead (for me). We may focus on
anything interesting that happens to walk in the door, but there will be at
least 5 areas which will get extra emphasis only because they are of special
interest to me as they relate to Smalltalk. They are:
- graphics, 3d + 2d
- patterns of all types, Kent Beck's and others
- learning Smalltalk, this will be ANYTHING but conventional
- politics verses substance, how do development decisions really get made
- how to achieve quality, Dr. Deming style
I will figure out some way to preannounce and otherwise post related material
on the internet relating to the SIG. At the present time there is no
commercial sponsor of the SIG and it may be that I intentionally keep it that
way.

Actually I don't know what is happening in the way of other groups in the Bay
area, I came up for air recently after having my nose to the grind stone for
a couple of years.
