I put up the basic Native Oberon Alpha (it should work also for the
batas and the stable distribution) on systems which are considered
as corporate trash: HP Vectra VL series 3 (75 and 90 MHz) with
8 MB RAM and 850 MB hard disk. It runs almost out of the box with
the on board graphic card (Cirrus-Logic 543x). These machines are
absolutely sufficient for Native Oberon.

Native Oberon System and Cheap PCs
Today I installed the Native Oberon alpha version on a Dell Latitude C600 notebook.

Devices:
o The built-in touchpad and thumbstick work.
o A Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer optical mouse with three buttons
was plugged in to the USB port and worked.
o Oberon-0's Config.DetectVesa command detects the display controller
(an ATI Mobility M3 2x AGP) correctly and 1024x768x16 mode works well.
o The floppy drive works both internally and externally off the parallel cable.
o The DVD drive works (Oberon also booted from CD).
o The output of PCITools.Scan is attached.

Performance:
o The BIOS takes 8 seconds to initialize and boot to the LILO boot menu.
o After that it takes 9 seconds for Oberon and Gadgets to boot.
o Oberon takes 4 seconds to shut down.
o After booting Oberon with Gadgets and some tools there is 120 of 128MB free.
o Partitions.Check reports sequential disk read performance of 13-16MB/s
  (depending on the location).

Problems:
o The network card and modem (Cardbus) are not supported yet.
o Suspend works reliably only when USB support is dynamically unloaded first.

Will you work on this? I think networking and telecomunication
is important nowadays.

I don't have time myself to work on this.  Any volunteers?
