 Research position in Mozart development

[Since Oz is a functional language, I post this message here, even
though the
major problems still to be solved concern distributed programming]

In the wake of the first public release of the Mozart Programming
System, the PIRATES project at the Department of Computing Science
and Engineering, Universite catholique de Louvain, is looking for
researchers, starting immediately.  We are looking for talented
and motivated Ph.D. students or postdocs, or people with equivalent
or more advanced background, with interest or experience in one or
more of:

- Design and implementation of languages and systems for distributed

- Distributed algorithms, models, and abstractions for fault
tolerance, security, resource management, and scalability.

- Result-oriented research based on a search for simplicity.

- Collaborative applications developed in Mozart and its successors.

The PIRATES project collaborates with the German Research Center for
Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the University of the Saarland, and
the Swedish Institute of Computer Science (SICS) in the design and
implementation of Mozart.  PIRATES is conceived as a feedback loop
between research-oriented platform development and advanced
application development.

The Department has excellent facilities, strong international
connections, and expertise in networks, network-related technologies,
constraints, software engineering, and technology transfer.  The
Universite catholique de Louvain is attractively located at
Louvain-la-Neuve in central Belgium and has good connections to the
rest of Belgium.

Starting dates of the positions are flexible, but should be preferably
as soon as possible.  Remuneration is competitive and according to the
candidate's experience.  Knowledge of French is desirable but not
essential.  If you are interested, please send the following:

   - a cover letter explaining your motivation and experience,
   - a curriculum vitae,
   - three references,
   - selected publications, if available
   - systems-building experience, if available
