                Technology of Object-Oriented Languages and Systems

                    24th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION

                      Beijing, China, September 22 - 25, 1997

New development of TOOLS Asia'97

-- Best TOOLS Asia'97 paper award (will be selected from the submissions)
-- Distributed Object Technology Workshop Announcement and Call for Papers

TOOLS is the major international conference and exhibition devoted to the
application of object-oriented technology.  TOOLS Asia '97, the twenty-fourth
TOOLS International Conference and Exhibition, will be run in Beijing,
China. This will be the first time that a TOOLS conference has been held in
Asia. TOOLS Asia '97 will continue the commitment to excellence demonstrated
by earlier conferences in Australia, Europe and the U.S. Standards established
for TOOLS by earlier conferences in the series include:

   * Dual emphases on both the practice of object-oriented technology and
     its application in industrial environments, and the latest advances in
     O-O theory and formal development.
   * A solid technical program, based on a strict refereeing process conducted
     by an international program committee comprised of both academic and
     industry leaders.
   * Balanced coverage of the wealth of approaches, trends and variants in
     the object-oriented community.
   * Combination of tutorials by international experts, up-to-date
     exhibitions of products and services, invited talks by innovators in
     the field, relevant panel discussions, and technical papers targeted to
     industry practitioners.

In addition, TOOLS Asia '97 will be assisted by an advisory committee,
representing many senior researchers and developers in the field.

As with previous conferences, the TOOLS 24 Proceedings will be published and
made available worldwide. Information on call for papers and submission
procedures can be found here.

non-exhaustive list of suggested topics include:

   * Specification, development and application of O-O methods and tools
   * Testing techniques and tools
   * O-O data models, persistence and databases
   * Distributed Object technology (Corba, OpenDoc, ActiveX/OLE, etc.)
   * Business Objects
   * Patterns, Libraries and Frameworks
   * O-O languages and packages
   * Formal semantics of O-O languages and data models
   * O-O metrics
   * Reports of experience with O-O technology
   * Migration towards O-O software development
   * O-O user interfaces
   * Class management and evolution
   * Empirical and field studies

     reusable components
   * Standardisation and quality assurance of O-O components
   * Re-engineering and reverse engineering of O-O systems
   * Education and training of object technology

TOOLS 24 will feature workshops and panels on components, distributed
objects and emerging methodologies standards. Technical papers are expressly
sought in these areas.
