 How does one pronounce 'Gwydion'?

My first guess would be like the bible people: gideon, but pronouncing
the 'w' might actually be a kind of Welsh strangness.

Yes, that's the way we all pronounce it (with a "w" sound inserted in
the obvius way after the "G").  Of course, nobody in our group is
actually Welsh -- one reason we avoid all those names with the double
L's.

I pronounce the name as "Gwid-eee-on" (that is, just like "gideon"
but sounding the "w"). However, I'm pretty certain that the proper
pronounciation is "Gw-ee-dee-on".

The only Welsh strangeness isn't the "w" but in the "wy" pair. Since
this pair has two common, and different, soundings. These are "w-ee"
(as in the English "we") and the second is as in the Welsh word "wy"
(egg) but for which a phonetic spelling escapes me at present.

Whatever, the chap is long dead and no one will be offended at the
odd mispronounciation. Even the Mabinogion itself seems to misrecord
certain people's names. It contains one tale about someone called
Macsen (I think). From what I've read, Macsen was actually a Roman
called Magnus.
