Dylanworks: when?

 Dylanworks: when?

As a matter of interest, has Harlequin given a firm release date for
Dylanworks (on Windows)?  If anyone knows, could they enlighten me, please.
FWIW, there seems to be a lot riding on the availability (soon) of a PC
Dylan implementation with industrial-strength environment.

I asked the same question at Boston ObjectWorld, and the Harlequin
engineer
told me that although they still have firm plans to release the product,
re-
lease has been delayed until they sort out what their position vis-a-vis
Java
is.

In other words, don't bet your future projects on it.

Ouch! Can anyone from Harlequin confirm or deny?

Looks like Gwydion will be the only one then. Maybe the good folks at
CMU should just rename their language and take control of the Dylan
spec? That way maybe it won't take so long to get the specs out, and
we'll see some more action.

Just trying to see the silver lining here :-)

The commercial public version of our Dylan product will hit the
streets in the first half of next year although specialised versions
will be available privately well before then. These dates reflect some
self-imposed goalpost moving as we've adjusted the architecture of our
environment to take into account some of the formidable technology
trends of the last year or so.

Chinese Whispers! We are, absolutely, very e{*filter*}d, determined and
committed to our Dylan project - period. No one language is suitable
for all applications, and we are confident that Dylan's benefits will
be more than sufficient to clearly differentiate it's power,
expressiveness, and productivity within a broad commercial audience.

No one says they're not; but, this is indeed what was said to me by their
man in Boston. Whether he was telling me more than he should, or more than

he knows is moot. I do not spread vain supposition.

But, judging by the quality of LispWorks, Harlequin's DylanWorks shoud be
a corker when it arrives, even if a year late.
