VFP 5.0a: General Questions

Have you checked out Delphi 3? Visual Foxpro is also interpreted (has a
runtime). I only ask since you seem to feel a 'runtime' is a problem. I'm still
unconvinced. In general, yes, I think compiled code runs faster, but for data
access, Fox is about as fast as it gets. Delphi has some real plusses when it
comes to some things - 'multiple inheritance' comes to mind, or graphics etc,
but for some things I prefer a runtime environment. I still find a whole lot of
good in runtime macros. There are things in Fox (like building queries for
instance) that require a WHOLE lot less code than in a compiled language,
thanks to runtime macros.
Anyway, for what it's worth. If compiled exe's are important, then Delphi may
well be your best bet. Paradox and dBase tables are native to it (through the
BDE). Supposedly version 3 handles FoxPro tables natively too (prior to VFP,
that is).
