 Internal Error 5333

Can anyone explain why a well behaved program (in Clipper 5.01) which has
been OK for years would suddenly start crashing with 5333?  Could it be
connected to a machine upgrade to Win 98?  Or larger data size?
Suggestions gratefully received.

 Internal Error 5333
From the Norton Guides (Clipper 5.2):

   5333     Misuse of VM System

This error occurs when there is a misuse of the virtual memory system
by either an internal or external (third-party) subsystem.

The following suggestions may eliminate the problem:

Check to see if the user is assigning an incorrect data type to a
IAMBS or GET instance variable.  This is a known cause for this
     error.

If the user is using any third-party libraries, see if the error
     still occurs without the library.

If the user is using a third-party linker, see if the problem occurs
     with .RTlink.

 Internal Error 5333
Thanks to Alex for the suggestions; still working through them, but doubt
success as the problem only arose recently with no major changes to anything
other than the computers running the programs. The working exefile has only
had minor changes and updates since last year.
This only shows up with one data set, which is larger than the rest but not
greatly different in other respects.
Any other ideas?

 Internal Error 5333
I seem to remember that after upgrading Win95 to Win98
in the config.sys himem.sys and emm36.exe are still loaded.

A Clipper programm running previously just fine
caused, after the upgrade, 'an illegal operation'  in Windows
(or something like that, it was a Dutch version of Windows).

Removing these two lines proved to be the solution
(they are no longer needed).
Maybe your problem is related to the 'old' config.sys also, or
something in the autoexec.bat.

Win 98 in default configuration has no loaded EMM386.EXE in CONFIG.SYS, but
Clipper 5.01 requires settings for EMM. If they are not set, Clipper does not
know how to manage Virtual Memory.

You have 2 solutions:
1. Set DEVICE=EMM386.EXE RAM in CONFIG.SYS if you want to run your Clipper app
from the command line only.
2. Set DEVICE=EMM386.EXE AUTO in CONFIG.SYS and SET CLIPPER=E0;... in
AUTOEXEC.BAT if you want to run your Clipper app in DOS window.

And one remark more: in some international versions of Win95 OSR2 and Win98
(not Win98 SE) there was a bug in IO.SYS. HIMEM.SYS was loaded in conventional
memory instead of upper and there were 45 KB memory less. If it is your case,
look for Y2k patch!
