 internal error 5333

Hi to all,
I got a "little" problem with a Clipper 5.01 - DOS 6.22 application:

        DBSETINDEX(0) internal error 5333

Does anybody know what it means?
Thank you.
Dario.

And so spake Dario Marini:

:       DBSETINDEX(0) internal error 5333
: Does anybody know what it means?

Dario-

EMM386 changed and 5.01 didn't notice.  For them to get along, you need to:

Quote:
> Upgrade to a later version of Clipper
> or, set the CLIPPER environment variable to //E:0
> or, add the NOVCPI parameter to the EMM386 line in CONFIG.SYS
> or, link in EMM501.OBJ from ftp://ftp.iag.net/pub/clipper/patch.

Good luck!

Dario, all 5xxx errors are memory-related.  My preferred solution is to
tinker with EMM386.EXE settings until you have maximum conventional memory
(and of course make sure you have plenty of XMS on hand as well if your
application uses it).

   5333     Misuse of VM System

This error occurs when there is a misuse of the virtual memory
system
by either an internal or external (third-party) subsystem.

The following suggestions may eliminate the problem:

Check to see if the user is assigning an incorrect data type to a
IAMBS or GET instance variable.  This is a known cause for this
     error.

If the user is using any third-party libraries, see if the error
     still occurs without the library.

If the user is using a third-party linker, see if the problem
occurs
     with .RTlink.

Hi there,

Some time ago, I had the same problem. It finally turned out to be a
bug in the RDD-driver I used. After a re-index the problem was gone,
but the next day (or a few day's later) it came back. Over and over
again! This went on for weeks, with a total index-rebuild almost every
day. I thought I was going crazy. I was using the NSX52 driver (yes,
the freeware version 1.1: BIG mistake, VERY VERY BIG mistake). One
day, I changed everything back in NTX indexfiles. The problem was gone
forever, NEVER to be seen again...

Hope this may help you.

Updrade to Clipper 5.2e!  That problem seems to have disappeared.
