 the old horse ... and redirecting it

Hey All,

CW20, C55EE, WinXP, Win2000TS, ...

Am having a little bit of trouble trying to get cw20 to redirect. I've been
reading the posts on redirecting the newer versions ... it seems pretty cool
and very worthwhile, however, at the moment there is a very large app in
cw20 which generates 200+ clw files ... my main problem is a lack of
understanding of what the cw20 redirection file actually does ... i
understand better with c55 ... but how different was the file between the
versions?

Thankyou one and all for your help, these newsgroups contain a wealth of
information.

If memory serves... the redirection file under CW2.0 was used to tell the
IDE where source, libs and other files were to be had.

Scott,

Thanks for replying.

I'm wondering if you can just insert the new line for the .clw files into
the cw20 redirection file ... it works with c55, so i assume it works for
this ... however if i do add this line into the redirection file, i get the
following error:

    (c:\windows\temp\cwtemp29.$$$ 6, 10) Make error: Sourcefile
<name>_RD.CLW not found

This might be because you need to add more to the other file types in the
redirection file, but doing that keeps the error (adding the "generated"
directory to the .obj and all other redirection file types).

Thanks again,

Stuart

The redirection file tells the Clarion IDE where to look and place
specific files.  Example:

[common]
*.clw=.\z-clw ; %ROOT%\3RDPARTY\LibSrc; %ROOT%\libsrc

which is what I have.  %ROOT% means the root directory where Clarion
is and I think this was available in CW2.  On my machine this would
expand to C:\Clarion\C55.

This means that the first place the IDE will look for the clw files is
in a z-clw subdirectory from the current directory.  This is where it
will put all generated clw files.  The other two entries add two other
directories to the list.  As far as I know this is a FIFO list, i.e.
the line is processed from left to rigth and the appropriate paths
searched accordingly.  In this case it would search .\z-clw first,
then the LibSrc in 3rdParty and finally the LibSrc directory.

Hope this helps a bit:)

Arnor,

Thanks for your reply.

I wonder if soft velocity would have any old documentation on the issue.

Anyways, i've tried to place the .clw line within the redirection file ...
no go (see above post re ERROR) ... but perhaps i'm putting it in the wrong
place within the redirection file. I think maybe cw20 needs a little more
help than a single line?

Again, thankyou kindly for your help, it helps me understand the murky
waters that are cw20 programming a little better <grin>.

I'm not sure if the CW2 red file was any different from the ones in
later versions.  I just don't remember and I don't have CW2 installed
any more.

Here is my C5.5 RED file in case it might help.  Also make sure that
the *.clw line is BEFORE the *.* line in the [common] section!

I should have done this before ... apologies ...

here is the original cw20.red file:

QCKSTART.TXA = C:\CW20\TEMPLATE
QCKSTART.TXD = C:\CW20\TEMPLATE

There is no .clw in it.

Here is the cw20.red i tried following Arnor's advice.

*.dbd = C:\CW20\obj
*.dll = .;C:\CW20\bin
*.lib = C:\CW20\obj;C:\CW20\lib

QCKSTART.TXA = C:\CW20\TEMPLATE

---

Still no go. Get the error mentioned in a post above ...

    (c:\windows\temp\cwtemp29.$$$ 6, 10) Make error: Sourcefile

Have even tried the cw20.red file below:

---

*.dbd = C:\CW20\obj
*.dll = .\generated;.;C:\CW20\bin
*.lib = .\generated;C:\CW20\obj;C:\CW20\lib
*.res = .\generated;C:\CW20\obj;C:\CW20\lib

*.*   = .; C:\CW20\examples; C:\CW20\libsrc

QCKSTART.TXA = C:\CW20\TEMPLATE
QCKSTART.TXD = C:\CW20\TEMPLATE

---

Overkill i know, but i'm game for anything once ... alas, no workee for this
idea either ...

Anyways, if anyone could provide another example or some hint that would be
grand ... and thanks to Scott and Arnor again for their replies.

Arnor ...

Thanks again! I just posted another post ... downloaded the headers, and saw
your new one!

Anyways, thankyou for providing your c55 redirection file. The problem still
persists, which makes me think it's not so much adding the .clw line, as
modifying some other part of the redirection file, or even some other part
of the clarion setup ...

The app is not in a directory with a long directory name is it?  I.e.
a directory name that is longer than 8 characters?  If it is, then
this will probably fail in CW2.

Arnor ...

Argggg. I almost thought that would fix it. Even after making sure all
directories were short enough, and that didn't work, i moved the offending
app into a directory directly under c:\ ... still no go ... same error all
around.
But thankyou again, i ALMOST thought we had it <grin>
