Mark, I logged on just now with a cable modem connection. Grabbed a few messages. The server is slower than TopSpeed one, and is the reason I now use the option in Gravity to save the messages to disk, so I usually do other Internet work while loading, then came back to read what was saved. Works out pretty well that way David -- From Encourager Software - David Troxell,

Mark, Are you using Virtual Access to save messages, than import into ForKeeps? David -- From Encourager Software - David Troxell,

I've been unable to post to the SV News server for the last couple of days. I can retrieve new messages, but my replies are building up in my outbox due to timing out. So I will apologise up front for the flood that will occur when the damn dam breaks. I'm using Agent (the pay for version of Free Agent). I posted this through the newsserver at my ISP which keeps a pitifully small number of comp.lang.clarion messages.

Or Amsterdam <g>. I had the same (or rather: similar) problem, until I put all the messages I had in my outbasket for news.softvelocity.com on hold. Then I could succesfully retrieve the messages from this newsgroup. As soon as I tried to post a news message, however, it failed again: ERR Error during receive.WS_ERR(10054), The connection was dropped (nntpclnt #687) Connect completed at 08:22:52 I can post to other newsservers without (obvious) problems. I will ask around in the Virtual Access mailinglist if there are any known problems with newsservers running DNEWS version 5.0f HTH Arie Rens (Advantage Software B.V.) Subject: Re: [virtualaccess] Virtual Access cannot post to DNEWS 5.0f newsserver? Arie, I've just tried posting to that server and have the same problem as you do. Even when I try to manually post a message to it by telneting into it doesn't work. It fails to recognise the end of message ".". I'll contact DNews and see what they say... Btw, I remember earlier problems with a certain version of DNews that didn't work with VA due to some odd behaviour on the part of DNews conflicting with VA streaming commands to the server for performance reasons. Perhaps they should upgrade to the latest DNews? TTFN, Pete

I tried "holding" new postings and it is now reading the SV messages. Mark, I would think it's a mystery to them as well. Some, such as myself, have little or no problems posting or downloading messages, while others do. Plus they are operating on a temporary server, so that may add to the mix of problems as well. David -- From Encourager Software - David Troxell,

I meant not even a "hey, we know the server's down we're working on it", or "we're moving the server, be patient" or "WHAT??? The server's down? Thanks!"
