How do I use the CLIP function in a report?  All I want to do is clip the
last name & first name fields.

Thanks

Hi Kevin,

Have a look in the help file in How Do I... or search the file for Clip,

a snip from same file:

Name = CLIP(Last) & ', ' & CLIP(First) & Init & '.'

Hope this get's you going.

Hi Kevin

Sounds like you want to create a Local variable and then in an embed
point before printing set the variable up to what you want ... e.g.

Loc:String60Variable = CLIP(LastName) & ', ' & CLIP(FirstName)

Then, in the report formatter,  just put the  variable where you want
it .. should work fine.

CLIP(FIL:Lastname) & ', ' & CLIP(FIL:Firstname)

Should work fine:)

Kevin, Firstly you need to define a local variable to hold the last and
first name fields.

Secondly, in the formula editor you set the field to hold the value, and
the place the formula will take place (before printing detail). Your
formula will be Clip(LastName) & ', ' & Firstname

There is no need to clip the firstname, and on your report place the new
local variable that you defined.
