 Printing : how to check printer ready, how to print Word file

My primary aim was to print a 3 pages notice written under Word.
First step of my search :
    with .SelPrint of Rich Text Box, no possibility to print more than half
a  page with
    Printer object
Second step
    using printing to a file from Word (i.e. Test.prn) and the following
procedure under
    VB5 has been succesfull (not recorded in the VB language)
          PrnDocFile="Test.prn"
          PrintOut=Printer.Port
          DocLength= FileLen(PrnDocFile)
          Open PrnDocFile For Binary As #1
          TextToPrint=Input(DocLength, #1)
          Open PrintOut For Binary As #2
          Close 1
          Put #2, , TextToPrint
          Close 2
Third step
    checking printer state (printer ready, paper feeding) from VB seems to
be not
    forseen without the use of Printer object
    a Turbo Pascal program, using Registers type, allows to test the printer
state, but
    the only possibility to return the state value seem to be the use of
file written by
    Pascal and read by VB
    unfortunately the Shell() call of this program, since VB, don't
recognize the command
    write(File,Variable) used in the Pascal language and the out data is not
recorded in
    the linking file (a forth step is in progress to also hardly use Dos
interruptions for this
    work )

Questions
    1. is it a easier possibility to print a 3 pages or more Word document
using Printer
        object ?
    2. is it a possibility to test the printer state directly from VB ?
