How to tell you max modem rate?

How to tell you max modem rate?

Is there a way to tell if you're using a 56K modem?  Or would that be
dependant on the windows settings anyhow?  I'm using PDQComm, and I
don't see an easy way to find this out, since PDQTapi just grabs what
the user sets their machine up to be.  Are there any reliable API's I
could use to quickly query the modem about it's speed beforehand?
Thanks in advance,
Dutch

Shouldn't be too difficult.  I haven't got my modem manual on me, but all
you'd need to do is open up the modem's come port and send the right AT
command and the modem will reply with its speed.  Just look in your modem
manual! :-)
