Can't bypass the Delete key in a Masked Edit Control

I Use vb5 (sp3) professional edition. win95.

for a regular text box control, setting

keycode = 0 in the keydown event and
keyascii = 0 in the keypress event

disables the delete key for that control.

However, doing the same for the Masked Edit Control
DOES NOT DISABLE THE DELETE KEY.
Am I missing something? or is that just the way it works?

any help is much appreciated.
