I have no hard information on this, but can give you a few things to think
about. First of all, bear in mind that Microsoft have always stated that
the market is interested only in the functionality of an application,
not the development system or background engine that produced or drives
it. This is one of the things they have always pushed with VB - yeah it
is slower than C/C++, but it can produce equally powerful applications
that can genuinely address a business need in a fraction of the time
that it would take the C teams.
The second important point to bear in mind is that this is the same
rumour that did the rounds during the beta phases of Visual Basic 2, 3 and
4 - and here it is again .. :)
Be patient...all will become clear.
