The best way to update two linked tables - Help

Hi folks,
I have two tables related to each other. One of them is the register
of a patient in a psychiatric hospital, with a lot of informations.
The other is the register of the medications he is having. We
assume that no more than 10 medications is possible per
patient. So, the question is, which is the best way to update the
patient's medication registers?

I am thinking in load the medicaments in a table in memory and
then compare with the updates the user has made in the screen.
So, I will have to delete the medicaments that are no more present,
include the new ones, and modify the data of those who has changed.
But, is this the best solution?

Thanks for your help.
