No.  Reall is a different language entirely.

Nahhh. We're just wannabees. "Real programmers don't eat Visual".
<SARCASM OFF>

I've been in this business for 40 full years, since computers were full of
vacuum tubes and occupied large rooms or whole floors of buildings. Believe me,
VB is real programming -- it's far more productive than almost any other
language/tool I've used (Microsoft Access database, with it's very-VB-like VBA
language being somewhat more so for me doing database work) and, if you're not
interested in writing the Operating Systems themselves, it can do almost
anything.

Certainly not! If you can't write your program using COPY CON: MYAPP.EXE
then you're just another wannabe. You shouldn't even have to use /B.

As someone once told me..."A programmer is a programmer is a
programmer.  Once you learn the mindset and the logic behind
programming, it is just a matter of learning the syntax to whatever
language you choose."

40 Years, as in ... like ... years?  You've been working with computers that
long and you can still speak?   I've only been at it for like 18 years and
I'm saving up for a lobotomy just to make the voices stop!  No, not now.
Later.  What are you talking about.  Make the voices stop already!  Ok, if
you say so.  Hahhhaeehhehhee hooohoohhhoo.  :~)

Oh BTW: I have Visual Basic to thank for my mental health.   :-O

In my experience, programming is a little more than the underlying language.
Programmers need to understand logic & how the data in the system will flow.
After that, which tool is being used shouldn't really matter. To a real
programmer it's just a matter of syntax. Naturally, different programming
languages are more capable of different things (there are things in VB one
wouldn't attempt in C & vice versa). From my own experience in the database
world, you need to understand user needs & how data is going to flow. After
that, how to use the programming language is either in your head or in a
book.

Just babbling,
Rich

Trust me...it is real programming. I just finished a five credit college
course in VB programming with no prior programming experience. Taking this
class was like no other experience I have had in a class in my life. I called
it "VB Boot Camp". Just to keep up with experienced programmers I worked about
3-4 times as hard. I think I have my text book memorized. Even a friend of mine
who has 13 years as a computer programming consultant found the pace of the class
challenging and she has worked in "C", COBOL and some other languages. I am pretty
sure if you asked her after what we went through in this class she would confirm that
Visual Basic is indeed a programming language.

And if it is not REALLY a programming language why is the computer consulting company
I work for encouraging consultants to develop VB skills?
