 capturing graph data point

I am programming in VB4.0 and have data in a sequential file that I
wish to display in a graph, then click some data point on the graph during
run time and have the data from that point on the graph be sent to a file. I
have tried using xloc/yloc, currentx, currenty, but have not been able to
tie the screen coordinates back to the data set. I am not tied to any
particular ways of graphing the data, I just need to be able to capture the
data point on the graph and send the data from that point to a file.
I would really appreciate some help with this problem.
