 Third Party ActiveX components

Anyone out there give me some feedback on whether or not using non-standard
components such as 3rd-party text box controls and list-boxes will add any
overhead to my application.
What I am doing is to use a specific 3rd-party text box as standard in my
applications for Labels and Texts - the text box that comes with InputPro.
This offers a little more flexibility than the standard text box control.

I obviously have the option to ONLY use the 3rd-party text box if needed,
but wanted to retain standardization..

Thanks in advance.

There will probably be some small amount of overhead as the 3rd party
control has more features which normally equates to more code / data etc.  I
personally would not be very worried about it.

What I would be concerned with is ongoing support / development AND cost.
Will the controls work in VB7 or Win2000 or whatever the future may hold for
your application.  There's no reason to suggest they won't but buying from a
long term company normally gives some greater comfort in this.  On the cost
front, check the licence details on how freely (or otherwise) you can copy
these controls around.  Its one thing to have to by licenses for each of
your development machines, its another to have to buy them for every machine
you load your application onto.

Regards
Ian

 Third Party ActiveX components
Thanks for the feedback Ian.
The controls I'm using are FarPoint controls - no licence fees/royalties
apply with distributed apps.
The idea of Win2000 or VB7--> causing issues does worry me a little. For
now, these things seem to be speeding up my productivity, so I'll probably
stick with them.

Paul.
