Black Art of Games Programming
I have it and I recommend it to everyone. The author shows you how to
write a "Breakout" game in the first chapter, spends the next few chapters
on game programming fundamentals (multiplaying, backgrounds, collisions),
then the last six are actually full-blown games step-by-step.
I think you will like it. You only need to know VB basics. It is not
going to be over your head. There is no need for additional software and
the examples come in VB3 and VB4. Although you will have to create the
.EXE for the VB4 examples since the VBRUN file they used when they made
their .EXE is not compatible with the latest, but that is a very, very,
very small problem compared to all that you will learn from this book.
