Visual Basic with MS DOS card for Power Mac

I was curious if anyone has attempted programming in Visual Basic using a
Power Mac with a DOS board.  I checked the Microsoft KB and they
basically claim that it won't fly.  I would appreciate if anyone could
advise me on question.  Thanks in advance!  AK

I'd be interested in that, too, although I intend to use a DOS Compatible
610.  I've searched the VB KB for "Macintosh," "Mac," and "power" without
any luck.  Which KB is it that you found your information?

I see; that article applies to _VB_for_MS-DOS_ (and not Windows), which
explains why I couldn't find it in my local copy.

Since the article refers only to "Apple Macintosh w/ MS-DOS Card," it's
possible that this dates back to the original card for the 610s.
Since the current, PowerMac card is in many ways more "IBM-compatible"
than the original, it may be okay for VB-DOS.  Again, this sounds like it
never was an issue for VBWin.

Yes it does work. I have been using PowerPc ( the 601 ) with a Dos card
which is a DX2/66 with 8 Meg or RAM. I have had no problems at all. I even
manged to use the shared comms port/ CD rom and the floppy drive.

In fact it is the best of both worlds.

I give it a good 90% mark.

I do my work on a PPC 6100 w/ the DOS card. It works, no problems.
Haven't run into any unusual errors... in other words, Windows doesn't
bomb any more than it usually does. :) Its actually very handy, since I
can work in a *real* environment <G> for all my personal stuff, and
switch over to knocking out VB code with the press of a key.

I have been using a Mac Quadra 610 DOS Compatible with VB 3.0 for Windows
for about a year now. The only problem that I haven't sorted out yet is
that I get an "out of memory" error when I try to use the OLE vbx. Still,
this is currently not a crucial issue for me.

Interestingly enough, I had problems with the beta version of Delphi
though. It would run and appear to be OK but wouldn't display any forms! I
am getting a bigger hard-disk soon, and a release version of Delphi and
will see how it goes.

My current configuration is 16M RAM (assigned by the control panel as 8 &
8), a 150 MB hard disk with a 40 MB DOS partition (no, I don't run many
DOS/Windows apps on this machine) and shared "disk"/folder in the Mac
partition which allows some very nice gif file transfers between the two
environments (save/download them with the Mac, switch to Windows convert
them to bmp (I use BBView) and load them into VB. Too easy!).

As some-one else said, the Mac CD-ROM works fine for both.

Cheers,
