What are the formats for BMP, JP[E]G, GIF, etc. files?
I mean, how are the files "encoded"?

What I want to do is, in effect, make a Paint program, but (much) better.

Recreating Paint may be educational, but the application curve is far, far
ahead, considering one can get even some Kai tools for free.
