 VB6 MCSD Advice needed..

I'd be grateful if anyone could advise me on switching career to VB
programming. I have been writing Industrial control/interfacing applications
with VB6 for a year with my current employer, and intend to pursue MCSD
certification based on VB6  in an attempt to be taken seriously...

Now for the questions..

Am I likely to be considered too old to jump into this industry at 33?

Is MCSD enough to get me in at the ground floor?

Thanks in advance..

God I hope not. I'm 33 and do primarily VB work for a consulting firm.
Ages range from 23 to late forties. The more senrior employees are
mangers, Team leaders etc.

In the US, you can get a job programming with experience alone. The
MCSD helps with the salary perks/negotiations.

You sound like my counterpart.... I've also been doing machine control for
about a year, though while most of the work has been in C, I've done a lot
in VB also. Here's what I've found out so far... (and I'm 31 BTW)

Our background while in programming, and even in VB, doesn't seem to mean a
whole lot. Seems like 99% of employers want SQL, Oracle etc... Not too
mention reporting and some web stuff too. They seem willing enough to
listen, but personally I haven't been able to find someone willing to accept
the fact that I KNOW how the lang. works... I just need to learn the other
side of it more in depth than my present knowledge. All this real time stuff
doesn't wash.

On the other hand, several have allowed me to come in and watch over the
shoulders or programmers they already have on staff. No pay or anything mind
you, and I'm not actually doing any work for them, but I AM learning more,
and they see that...

MCSD would help I think (I don't have it personally yet) but I think it's
also more of an after the fact thing. As in, you would be worth more salary
wise. Not sure if it would help getting in the door.

Age does not seem to be a problem. I've seem a couple guys older than both
of us get picked up by companies that passed me by. They simply had the
right training. So... Hope that helps a bit.

And, if anyone out there disagrees with me, then hire me! <G>
