VB4 Setup Wizard problems
Well, I've looked back (with the help of DejaNews) at all the problems with
VB4's Setup Wizard, but haven't really found any answers.
I also checked out Microsoft's Knowledge Base, and it did indicate that
there were some fixes to some of the problems, but damned if I could find
what/where to download!
Here are the symtoms:
I've created a 16-bit VB4 application under Win95, and used setup wizard to
create a distribution. When I try to install it under WfW3.11, the
installation proceeds successfully, but the program will not run - double
click on its icon, the hard drive churns for a couple of seconds, then quits.
Looking at the task list, the program _is_ listed. And if I choose "End Task",
it goes away.
So I installed WfW3.11 on another machine and installed VB4. The distribution
created from this machine didn't work either. The program runs fine on the
development machine, even with WfW, but not on any machine that does not have
VB4 installed.
So it would seem that some file(s) are missing?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

After reading all the other problems people have been having with VB4, it
seems pretty incredible that Microsoft had the nerve to release this buggy
piece of garbage. They have essentially received a "loan" from all the people
who have bought this unfinished product. Along the same lines as selling
Office Professional without Access - with the promise that Access would be
available by October. Where's the interest on that "loan"?
I recall that the makers of one of those memory compression programs for
Win '95 were forced to do a product recall because the program didn't work/do
anything. Why not Microsoft?
